Brass Menorah - 20th Century Poland

In the design of this cast lamp, the structural features of Hanukkah lamps from Spain and southern Italy in the Middle Ages have been preserved, whose influence spread to other countries. Here you can see how legs were added to the early type, which was meant to hang on a wall, in order to stand the lamp upright, as was common with local Hanukkah lamps. Another new motif is the Star of David pattern, a symbol of the Zionist movement, which began appearing in the early 20th century on ritual and religious objects. The original item is kept in the Israel Museum collection.
